An Ode to Luxurious Loungewear...

This post is an ode to luxurious loungewear, to silk and cashmere, to creative layering and, most of all, not losing your sense of style just because you're staying in the comfort of your own home!

The typical American take on loungewear sends chills down my spine. The flannel pajama, scratchy cheap cottons, sweatpants and polyester - none of these are things I would want touching my skin, especially not when there are so many sumptuous options available in lounge.  You can be warm, comfortable & unencumbered while still being feminine - and if you could swap flannel for silk or cashmere, why on earth wouldn't you!?

One of the great joys in luxurious loungewear is the feeling of high-quality fabrics against your skin. Many companies specialize in specific fabrics or blends, including pure cottons, silk, cashmere, merino wool and viscose - all you have to do is pick your favorite! Materials like silk and high-quality cotton have the added bonus of being natural fibers: not only do they feel lovely, but they also 'breathe' on the body.

Layering is the easiest way to stay warm once the temperatures drop. A lovely camisole will add an extra layer of warmth, feel great against the skin, and allow you the possibility to integrate color & lace accents into the rest of your ensemble. Hosiery is another fantastic option, with companies like Falke, Fogal & Wolford all producing knits, opaques, and heavier-gauge patterns for the winter months.

Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean you can't be both sexy and comfortable. One of my favorite pin-up style looks involves a sweet cardigan over a delicate lingerie set. Add cozy hosiery or cashmere over-the-knees to help you stay warm while still looking seductive.  A well tailored robe or silk kimono can add warmth your flimsiest chemises while still enhancing your curves.

40's Style Silk Robe by Kenan

The silk pajama is a classic luxury, invoking the glamour of old Hollywood starlets lounging in their boudoir. Utterly decadent, they are the ultimate in luxurious loungewear. My favorite styles retain masculine styling with added feminine details - the slightly-cropped length of the top from Christine Vancouver, the twilled silk & pink paisley print from Derek Rose, the trouser leg & button closure on the pants from Kenan... These are the details that make each collection a treasure.

This season marks some of the most gorgeous colors I've seen in lingerie in recent years. The shop is stocked with rich jewel tones and pops of bright color, accented with the classic lingerie colors of black, pink and nude. The holidays are approaching, so our racks are overflowing in beauties, and sizes abound! As the collections we stock are mostly seasonal (produced once & never again!) it is important to snatch these beauties up as soon they win your heart.

What do you think? What are your favorite lounge pieces for winter?
