Bridget Jones: The Third?

Probably one of my most cherished DVDs
Apparently, a third Bridget Jones film has been confirmed, and I can't help but express my "why" face as I type this. I mean, I was a huge fan of the first film, because despite my initial reservations of an American taking the role, I actually though that Renee Zellwegger played a brilliant Bridget. The film was light-hearted, fun and relatable. The second one, I watched for my 21st Birthday, and although not quite as endearing as the first one, I still enjoyed it. But, for me, that is where Bridget's story ends.

Maybe it's because Helen Fielding only wrote two books, or maybe because the second film is now coming up to being seven years old, but I am really struggling to see the point to this film.

Colin Firth has also allegedly let slip that Bridget and Mark are unable to have children, which I find quite sad. Why can't they just give Bridget a chance of happiness for a change?

Another Slice of Pie, Perhaps?

It's easy to forget that there are only really three American Pie films, what with all the incredibly irritating Eugene Levy-ridden straight-to-DVD fodder that were the "Band Camp" etc films. But, I have to say that as a fan of the original film, I am really looking forward to American Pie 4 being released next Spring.

To be honest, I'm a little surprised about how much I'm looking forward to this film, because when I (eventually) caught the American Pie Wedding film, I found that I really didn't care about it, hence why I really have no interest in all of Levy's spin-offs. But, I think the problem with the wedding and every single one of the band camp films, was that the majority of the cast that we loved were absent.

It's like watching episodes of "Joey", where Matt Le Blanc never seems to be able to create the same Joey that we knew and loved in Friends. Of course, we love Jim, Michelle and Stifler, but we also need their friends as a support base.

So, the fact that all of the major runners from the first film are returning for this outing is absolutely brilliant. I just hope that it lives up to the hype, and set-up. And I also hope that this really will be the last slice of the pie.
